Winsaula Alpacas is proud to be an affiliated trainer for the British Alpaca Society, delivering a comprehensive programme designed for new and prospective alpaca owners.
Our hands-on, one‑day course is perfect for anyone wanting to understand the essentials of alpaca care. You’ll gain practical experience, learn key skills, and have plenty of time to ask questions while working directly with our alpacas.
Start your journey with confidence

Essential Alpaca Care
Build your knowledge and confidence in the core aspects of alpaca husbandry, from feeding and basic management to vaccinations, worming, parasite control, supplements, and general health care. Understand their breed, colour, purpose and behaviours.

Handling Alpacas With Confidence
Learn safe and effective handling skills including how to gather and contain alpacas, the importance of correct halter fit, halter training and how to prepare for sheering day for a smooth, stress-free experience for the animal, shearer and owner.

Gain insight into breeding and mating to enhance herd quality, alongside a dedicated module offering practical guidance on managing birthing — all designed to support a long-term, sustainable herd and business success.

Winsaula Alpaca Training
Location, Format and Dates
Your Training Day: Format
What to expect on the day: The training day runs from 10am to 5pm. Please arrive from 9.30am for a ‘welcome and refreshments’ before the sessions begin at 10am.
The day is structured into clearly guided modules, with a 10-minute refreshment break following each session. Modules 1 and 2 take place in a classroom setting during the morning, before moving outdoors after lunch for Modules 3 to 5 with the alpacas. Lunch is provided; please advise us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
Pens, paper and a take-home booklet of essential information are provided on the day for you.

Course Location
Our courses are held at Winsaula Alpacas, Badgworth, BS26 2QP. We are 12 miles south of Bristol Airport along the A38 or five miles from J22 of the M5. Nearby towns are Axbridge, Wedmore and Cheddar.
Small Groups
To ensure a relaxed and supportive learning environment, group sizes are limited to just 2–10 participants. This allows plenty of individual guidance and time for questions throughout the day.
Ongoing Support
Support doesn’t end when the course finishes — we’re always available afterwards to provide advice and reassurance as you begin or continue your alpaca journey.
