About Winsaula Suri Alpacas
Excellence in Every Generation
Our Story
Our journey began in 2015, but the seed was planted years earlier when Paula first encountered the majestic Suri while trekking the Inca Trail in Peru. That moment sparked a passion that would eventually grow into a dedicated breeding programme focused on excellence, education, and continual improvement.
About Paula
Paula works remotely for a London‑based technology company, supporting major NHS hospitals and public‑sector clients with IT services, contract management, and relationship management. Alongside her professional career, she is deeply committed to alpaca education and lifelong learning.
Paula is trained to deliver British Alpaca Society–Affiliated Training, offering courses across all nine BAS‑approved modules, covering everything from feeding and handling to fleece, breeding, birthing, and marketing.
In addition Paula is trained in Camelid Dynamics, a positive‑reinforcement handling method. Using gentle neck‑wrap techniques, she helps cria feel secure and confident during early handling, creating calm, stress‑free halter training experiences.
About Mark
Mark also works in the technology sector as a programme manager, but his true passion lies in wildlife photography.
Whenever possible, we travel on safari, combining our love of wildlife, conservation, and the natural world.
In 2025, Mark attended the Pangolin Wildlife Photography Academy in Chobe, Botswana, learning from leading experts and further developing his craft.

Our Breeding Philosophy
Best in Breed Excellence across the UK
Winsaula Alpacas began with a simple idea: that the UK could stand among the world’s leading Suri breeders. What started as a fascination with the elegance of the Suri, especially the elusive beauty of classic grey, quickly grew into a mission to build something extraordinary

Our early years were defined by one Cria who changed everything. Winsaula Joker.
Our fourth birth on the farm, he didn’t just succeed, he made history. Three Supreme Championships in a single year, seventeen Championship titles, and a legacy that continues through his offspring, who went on to win British Alpaca Society National Champion titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
As our ambitions grew, we looked beyond the UK to strengthen the black and grey genetics available here. In 2022, we welcomed Thistledown Oscuro from New Zealand, a male whose pedigree and fleece quality were nothing short of remarkable.
With true black uniformity, exceptional lock structure, and the rare ability to hold a 22 micron fleece into his twelfth year, Oscuro reshaped our breeding programme.
His progeny rose quickly through the show ranks, and in 2025 he was named British Alpaca Society Herd Sire of the Year, while Winsaula Alpacas received Best Medium Breeder.

We continued to build on that foundation. Oscuro’s son, Thistledown Maniatoto, joined us to reinforce density and depth of colour. Then came Thistledown Belluno @ Winsaula, imported from New Zealand’s South Island, bringing the influence of Surilana Silvertail, Icalon, and T Pito.
His impact was immediate: in 2025, his son won Champion Black Male at the BAS National Show, with another son taking Reserve Champion Brown Male.

One of our most treasured additions arrived at the same time: Shadow Wood Magical Kiss. We had admired her from afar. A black female whose fleece consistently scored above 83 points in New Zealand.
Being entrusted with her was a privilege. Her density is extraordinary, her genetics advanced, and her presence in our herd marks a new chapter in our black breeding programme.
Today, our work is guided by both passion and science. We invest in research, including pioneering work in alpaca genotyping and coat colour testing, ensuring that every breeding decision is informed, intentional, and aligned with our long term vision.
Winsaula Alpacas is more than a herd. It is a story of dedication, to the Suri breed, to genetic excellence, and to the belief that the UK can produce animals that stand proudly on the world stage.
And as our herd grows, so does our commitment to shaping the future of Suri breeding.
